Anglesey, Round 3
2nd June 2009

Well, it’s about time I introduced my new man at the sharp end, Carl, mechanic and operations! Don’t be misled by the title photo, he is like a coiled spring, ready for action! The empty box of Stella is just this guy’s Red Bull.
Anglesey round 3 was just one of those meetings to be honest, I never quite felt myself and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I struggled to get dialled in and it showed in my results. The bike and set up were spot on and even though it had given rain for the bank holiday Monday, we were blessed with sun from the off, the worst we suffered was a delay from the sea mist due to visibility, I’ll take that over rain any day…
I drew 20th on the grid for the qualifying race which was actually quite good for me, the race went ok without drama and I was running just off my best lap time. I crossed the line in 16th which put me 5th in my class! Should have done much better…
That put me on the second row in 8th for the championship race. I got passed by one guy early on so I put my head down as I never wanted to slip any further down the order. The guys in front were just gapping me slightly with each lap, a tenth here, a tenth there, as I was not committing enough in one or two turns and over braking unnecessarily. Well 9th is points on the board so I can’t be too disappointed. Rob and Richie both had mega rides, both blitzing their lap times, well done fellas, I’m beginning to feel the heat!
The next round at Anglesey is host to the GSXR cup and due to a low entry the club has proposed that the steel frame 600s fill the grid and race alongside those boys! What an awesome prospect. It is to be decided by a majority vote so fingers crossed it happens. Its run over two days, 1st & 2nd of August so instead of just three 7 lap races we would get 1 free practise, 1 timed practise, 1 warm up session and two 16 or 20 lap races, it’s almost factory!! Not sure if my bike can hold enough fuel…
Anyway, a big thanks to Ian, Becky, Dennis, Brain and Alan who came to support us and spend the day with us, cheers guys, it means a lot…
Hope you can make it in August to see me whip some Gixer butts!
Al
